Hillary Clinton avoided a nasty situation when a woman hurled a shoe at her — and missed — while she was giving a speech at an Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries meeting in Las Vegas on Thursday. The woman who threw the shoe bolted for the exit but was stopped by security. She is currently in custody.
Hillary seemed to be good natured about the shoe-throwing incident, joking, "Is that somebody throwing something at me? Is that part of Cirque du Soleil?" She added, "My goodness, I didn't know solid waste management was so controversial. Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did." Hillary isn't the first politician to get a shoe thrown at them, as former President George W. Bush famously missed a footwear attack of his own when an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at him during a press conference in Baghdad in December 2008. Watch George's shoe encounter below.
